BIOGRAPHY: When Emily Gorton was born in Maitland on the 18th of June, 1861, there had been seven girls and six boys born previously to the family. Her childhood was spent as with the other members of the family, and she attended school at Clarencetown. On the 31st of May, 1882 she married George Weller at St John's Anglican Church, Clarencetown. Two sons and five daughters were born of the marriage. About 1897, George Weller died and Emily was left with a young family. With the exception of Janet, the remainder of the children went to live with their uncle, David Gorton of "Greenacres", Lismore. Emily Ellen Weller (nee Gorton) did not remain a widow very long. On the 13th of February, 1899, she married Thomas Preece in the Roman Catholic Church, Clarencetown. She was aged 37 years at that time. One daughter and two sons were born of this marriage. Emily Ellen died on the 4th of March, 1943, at the age of 81 years. Her remains were buried in the Roman Catholic section of the Clarencetown cemetry.
