BIOGRAPHY: This last child and nineth daughter of Joseph and Jane Gorton was born at Clarencetown on the 8th of March, 1863. After leaving Clarencetown school, she lived with her parents and, in their old age, kept house for them at their home in Queen Street, Clarencetown, until her marriage. Julia's marriage did not please her parents, but she was of age and her parents were advanced in years, so there was little that they could do but accept the situation. The marriage to David Louis Davis took place in the Clarencetown Registry Office on the 24th of December, 1887. David Louis Davis was of the Jewish faith, hence the civil marriage. The marriage was not a happy one, and was dissolved by decree of the Supreme Court of New South Wales on the 2nd of May, 1901. Three sons were born, the second dying at the age of 15 months, named Joseph Lionel (but called "Bonnie") he was buried in the Dungog Cemetry, very near to the grave of the first Gorton to settle in Australia, the pioneering cattleman, George Gorton of "Main Creek". Julia herself, died on the 4th of April, 1904, buried at Glen William. Julia's youngest son, Rupert Loftus Gorton Davis, following the early decease of his mother, went to live with his uncle, Edwin Gorton. In his later life he became one of Sydney's best known and most respected auctioneers and valuers, trading as A.G.Jones, Auctioneers, from offices in the city. "Rube" Davis (as he was known) died on the 2nd of November, 1952, leaving a widow, Helen Mary (nee Parker) and one son, Robert Gorton Davis.
